LONG FURLONG COMMUNITY CENTRE
ROAD CLOSURE FOR ABINGDON MARATHON
The 2016 Abingdon Marathon, incorporating the Oxfordshire County Marathon Championships, Berkshire County Marathon Championships, Middlesex County Marathon Championships and Army AA Marathon Championships, is scheduled to take place on Sunday, 23rd October. This will be the 33rd running of the race since its inception in 1982.
The race organisers realise that the passage of a large group of runners such as this, particularly in the early stages of the race when they are bunched closely together, has the potential to affect other people along the route. We also appreciate that the success of the event depends on your support, and hope that by providing advance warning any disruption can be minimised. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience the race may cause.
For reasons of safety the following road closures have, in conjunction with the Oxfordshire County Council (the Highways Authority), been scheduled for that date:
a) between approximately 8:30am and 9.30am – the section of Dunmore Road eastwards from Wootton Road roundabout towards Tilsley Park (northern lane) and Twelve Acre Drive (northern lane between Oxford Road and Audlett Drive/Radley Road roundabouts) including closure of the roundabout junction of the Oxford Road roundabout with Dunmore Road and Twelve Acre Drive, and the section of Radley Road eastwards from Audlett Drive to Thrupp Lane, Radley.
b) between approximately 11:00am and 2:00pm – the section of Dunmore Road from the B4017 Wootton Road eastwards to Tilsley Park. Traffic from side roads will be required to turn left only during the closures.
